About The Great Escape
Timed to coincide with the start of the Munich Beer Festival, this is a rare opportunity for fans of the film to appreciate the real life events of courage and sacrifice that inspired the universal favourite epic………and have a jolly good time taking part in a unique driving experience in a ridiculously priced car….remember, you can only spend up to £200! Good luck chaps!
How long does it take?
3 days for the rally itself. Allowing probably for a day’s travel to the start, (and another day to dispose of your car and fly home if you wish), 3 days driving about the French, Belgium, Polish, Czech, German and possibly Austrian countryside in a rubbish car is probably just about enough!
When will it take place?
The rally will start around 8.30 am on Friday morning 15th September 2017 near Koblenz, Germany (a four hour drive from the ferry ports) and end in Munich on the afternoon of Sunday 17th, allowing you to enjoy the delights of the Munich beer festival before you head home, if you wish. For those interested in the Oktoberfest why not stay an extra night or two?
Support en route
You are joking surely? Trust us, you really would not appreciate it if we deprived you of the uncertainty each day on whether your chosen chariot will make it to the next checkpoint, let alone start in the morning. Breaking down miles from anywhere, on a Motorway, B road or mountain pass in a strange country must be top banana in the entertainment stakes and worth the entry fee alone! “Big X” would welcome a call from your mobile though if you do have a breakdown, if only so we know you are safe.
What do you do each day besides driving?
To keep you and your passengers amused there will be a couple of film related tasks to perform en route, but if you just want to cruise through the countryside without taking part then that's just as cool with us too. Remember rule number 1, this is categorically not a race across Europe, but a leisurely drive by likeminded people, and there will be no advantage in arriving first.
Managing to coax your chosen wreck to the finish point should be reward enough but at the final night's presentation ceremony, cash prizes will be awarded for the Top 3 cumulative team scores for the daily tasks. The overall winner will also receive a suitably dodgy trophy! An additional prize will also be awarded by vote, for the best "pimp my ride" paint scheme, and at the organisers discretion anything else that takes our fancy. Everyone is a winner and each participant will also be provided with an appropriately rubbish medal memento on finishing.
The stop over points will be confirmed via email once you have signed up and further information will be given out via facebook, so that you can book your hotels, camping etc. well in advance. Approximately a month before the start of the rally we will provide a rally guide which will contain final route details and meeting locations etc., plus any advance task requirements (!).
How much does it cost to take part, and what's included?
The standard entry fee is £295 for a car with 2 passengers, including a set of car stickers and a rally plaque. Additional passengers cost £65.
We therefore urge you to sign up as soon as possible. In any event spaces are limited to 80 cars. For payment details please click onto and complete the Sign Up page, which will automatically direct you to PayPal, where you can pay by debit or credit card.
